Her practice aligned with Brutalist and modernist experimentation, transforming found materials—wood fragments, metal elements, and industrial remnants—into richly textured surfaces.~~ Axelrod was particularly adept at combining diverse materials within a single work. Her “Icons” series—assemblages of found objects and fragments—were constructed into low reliefs and unified through an overall darkened surface, allowing subtle metallic undertones to emerge. Her works often evoked ancient walls, ritual objects, and fragmented landscapes, carrying a quiet intensity and enduring sense of mystery.~~ Exhibited widely in New York and Philadelphia, and at the 1964 World’s Fair Fine Arts Pavilion, her work is held in both institutional and private collections.
