I want to hear what you like and don’t like about this site.

  1. Al says:

We posted a sub-wide sale with dates running from Thursday-Sunday.
When I searched YSTM, the sale only shows up when the search day chosen is the first day (Thursday) of our date range.

The problem is that if someone wants to go shopping on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and chooses one of those days, they will not see our sale listed.

Did we do something wrong in our set up?

  2. Jane says:

is there anyway to use the “free” category on CL without adding the sales one at a time? that would be awesome!

  3. admin says:

I have looked into this in the past. 90% of the free ads do not have addresses so I haven’t pursued the idea further. Plus I know that when I post free stuff on craigslist, someone grabs it within minutes, so there is always a lot of “stale” data in the free listings.

  4. Sale locations very inacurate. Sales claiming to be on Long Island NY are actually from Kentucky and other places across the country just because the local street and the out of state town match. also happens within Long Island where sale is showing in a Nassau address is actually in Suffolk

  5. admin says:

Good call; I found the problem. Hopefully your results will look better next week. Thanks for the feedback!

  6. CDOC says:

Outstanding! My wife and mother-n-law go every Friday and Saturday when they can go.What a great service. Very nice and easy to use. Thank you!

  7. mark says:

Hi! Thank you, love, love, love the site. I am heading to chico, ca for garage sales this weekend but YSTM doesn’t seem to be linked to the Chico craigslist for some reason. Can you fix this?? Thanks! -mark

  8. admin says:

Mark, thanks for the feedback. I actually had no idea what state Chico was in, and apparently I guessed wrong. Chico sales should start showing up in 3 or 4 hours. Thanks for letting me know!

  9. Mavis says:

FYI Elk grove, ca [near Sacramento is show the information for July currently 8/6/10 5:30 pm great site !! normally hate looking at C list love yours alot
    Mavis

  10. admin says:

Marvis, thanks! I do somehow have some date problems. When I have some free time I will sort them out and probably move the site out of Beta. Happy sale-ing!

  11. Brittany says:

I think this is an awesome tool, but I would love to have one more editing feature! There needs to be a way to filter out posts before a certain date. Craigslist can leave postings on their site for 30 days finding sales from two weeks ago and having to delete each individual one can be very time consuming.
    Just a suggestion.

  12. admin says:

I have just (hopefully) fixed the date problem. I only intended to show sales for the current week, but I had a few issues that were letting incorrect dates slip through.

  13. Lorraine says:

Is there anyway to add more distance choices. The difference between 20 – 50 is enormous. At 20 I get only 5-6. At 50 I get over 100, way too many to delete. Somewhere in the middle would be great.
BTW this is a terrific site. Wish I had known about it before.

  14. admin says:

Thanks for bringing the range thing back to my attention. The next time I update the site I will add an option to let you type in whatever distance you want to search.

  15. JoAnne says:

Please, please, please increase the number of sales a person can add to the map when planning a route. My community does a large sale twice a year and I hit close to 40 sales each time. I love to use your site to plan my route, but need more than 25 sales on my route.

    Thanks so much!

  16. Lisa S says:

God bless your little heart. This site is AWESOME!!!!! When I have a sale (soon), I will be sure and mention your site in my ad, if allowed. Thanks for such a helpful service!!!!

  17. admin says:

JoAnne – the 25 sale limit is imposed by Google, not me. Every now and again they raise this limit (last year it was 20). Until they raise it again I would suggest that you plan your route in two phases, with the second phase starting where the first phase left off.

  18. Dottie says:

Why do some of the red balloons appear without a number, and some do have numbers?

  19. Anna says:

Hello, I have used craigslist and YSTM for the last year, with no problems. But today, I checked the YSTM to see if my garage sale was showing up. It was not, so I entered in the URL of my ad, and it showed up. But it only showed up for the first day of our sale, on Friday, but no sale ad showed up for Sat. I manually put in the dates again, and it’s still not showing up on Saturday, only Friday. This has never happened before. Is there anything I can do about it? Thank You so much. I love this service.

  20. admin says:

Hi Dottie, basically I am only counting sales to 100 so if you see sales without numbers then you may want to think about re-searching with a smaller radius to make your planning more manageable.

  21. Anna says:

Hello, my garage sale, and my neighbor’s garage sale did not show up at all this weekend. I wrote an email to you about it last night, and they are still not showing up. I had this problem last week, too. Is there any way we can find out what’s causing this?

  22. Al says:

This is a wonderful app, and I’ll have some feature requests soon.

I’ve found that I cannot print more than one page. That is, when I select “Print Directions” it opens a window with all the information on one long page. When I print it, it only prints what will fit on one page, and the rest is lost (truncated). I’m using firefox. I’ve tried everything, but this problem makes it unusable for me (can’t print sheet to take in car).

I can document this if you want.

    - Al

  23. Love the popup print window, however, using latest version of IE, it does not provide a print button or link to print (once you have the print version of the map and details of each sale displayed on the popup window) to send the screen to your printer.

works, however, others may not know to do this.

    Thanks!!!

    Wonderful site.

    John

  24. admin says:

Great comment! I have added a print button at the top of the popup page.

  25. Bill says:

The print icon is off the bottom of my screen, and it’s washed out. If I don’t notice it and try to print the screen, or even try to print highlighted sale text, nothing useful is produced. In lieu of optimizing the route at the outset, I think it would be better to not show the route lines, cause it tends to look like a big mess. Basically, I think you need to focus more on making sure the product is useful for the first time user. Suggest you sit behind a new user (you’re not allowed to help them) and see what happens.

  26. Blair says:

The numbers are missing now. The numbers on the flags that mark the sale locations are gone. There is no way to put sales in order according to location any more. I always found that useful when using YSTM. Is this something new or just a glitch?

  27. admin says:

I have been updating the interface. You can add numbers to the markers by clicking on the “Add” button at the bottom left of the sale bubble window. This way you can still plan your route without having to delete a bunch of sales. I am still tweaking things, but hopefully this is an improvement.

  28. Sherry says:

This is an awesome website! I can’t wait for the garage sale season to try it out. Thanks so much!!

  29. Kevin says:

Kijij.cai is just as popular north of the border as CL. It is also a free classified site. I love your site for the ease of use for CL. Any chance of pulling in the sales from Kijiji as well?

  30. admin says:

Kevin – thanks for reminding me. I do plan on adding Kijiji… check back in a few weeks.

  31. Bill says:

I really like the concept of this. I added several from Kijiji and then put them in order and printed it out but it did not save the data in case I want to add a late addition. Am I missing how to save it?

Also, is there a way to add a start and end time field as that is the criteria that I use for sorting (as well as location of course). I put it into the summary field right now.

I am really looking forward to having Kijiji added in as that is where 90% of our yard sales are listed.

One more question – once the list is sorted (assuming I can save it overnight) how can I load it to my iPhone?

  32. admin says:

Bill, thanks for reminding me, I do need to add a save feature. I do not have a way to sort by sale start time unfortunately. Once your itinerary is ready, you can send to your iPhone by hitting the Apple icon at the bottom of the yellow sticky. Type in your email address and you will be sent an email with instructions. Opening the “Yard Sale Mapper” app directly from the email will tie your email username to the app and you will be all hooked up.

I have not added Kijiji yet because every time I check there are only a small handful of Kijiji yard sales versus hundreds of craigslist yard sales for the same city. I am considering adding Kijiji Canada at some point soon.

  33. Jens says:

The yard sale map is no longer working on my computer. I refresh it nad put in different city and refresh, no response. I use explarer9 on windows64bit. I have a friend who had this on the phone ap and it stopped working too. any ideas?

  34. admin says:

Things seem to be working ok on my end. Maybe the servers got a reset. Please let me know if you are still having problems and I will take a look.

  35. James says:

Sense i updated my IE the site does not give the map. Please help

  36. admin says:

Hi James, IE 9 has a compatibility mode button to make it work with regular websites. Hit this button and all will be well. If I remember right this button is on the right of the url.

  37. Ryan says:

I really wanted to make use of a site like this, but its just turning out to be too much work. Copying & pasting every garage sale from my newspaper’s website is too tedious. And for some reason after I’ve added it, I can’t edit it? So now I can’t add notes.

I would suggest letting me copy & paste the whole page of garage sales into your site, then you parse out the addresses from that text. Or maybe just ask me to place one address on each line. That would save a TON of time from flipping back & forth between browser windows. For now I am giving up. I love this idea though, I’ve thought about doing it myself many times. Kudos on your progress so far.

  38. Anonymous says:

This site is terrible – I am in Brooklyn, NY, in the middle of New York City, and most of the sales results are at local street address names (xxx Maple street, or 123 Ocean avenue) but in other CITIES entirely.

  39. Rosie says:

    Hi,
do you include rummage sales in your search of Craigslist?
I’m a rummage sale junkie and will hit one first before a yard sale.
    Thanks!

  40. Rosie says:

any thought of adding estatesales.net to your search?

  41. Mariah says:

I think this is totally awesome. I have been talking about a website like this for the past year and wanted to create one but had no idea how to begin. I just came across your site and it is exactly what I had in mind. You can search local sales for specific items and you can map them out to get the best results for the least amount of time! Excellent job!

  42. Anonymous says:

Caution – the app seems to match on street names and ignores the city listed in the ad. So you get many out of state listings which just happen to match a street name near you. So you have to check each one and read the original ad. Not really saving much time.

  43. Shonda says:

I’m the publisher of a garage sale website also. My husband has been telling me that I need a phone app, but with the limited time I have I can hardly get my website up to my own standards. (I’m in the middle of developing a new website. My current site gets about 150 sales throughout the US each week.) I think you have done an excellent job. If I were to develop one…before seeing your product, I’m not sure I would have come up with what you’ve accomplished. I just had to tell you. Good job! Although I do not have an Android or iPhone…from what I see through the website it is looking pretty good.

  44. Alisha says:

I’m having problems once I go to print my yard sale map. Last year when I used yardsaletreasuremap it would print the yard sale descriptions from craigslist on the left side and then the google directions on the right. However, when I go to print them this year, I only see the craigslist descriptions on the left side and the other side is blank with no directions. So in order to get the directions I have to go directly to google and print them from there. So then I end up with two separate documents to print.

I originally thought this was a problem with my web browser but I’ve tried it on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox and run into the same problem on all web browsers. I also had a friend try it on her computer and she ran in to the same problem.

Am I doing something wrong or is the site experiencing problems? I would love to hear back, as I love your website and use it every weekend!

    Thanks!

  45. admin says:

Alisha, thanks for pointing this out! I wonder how long it has been broken. It has now been fixed. If it still does not work for you you may need to clear your browser cache to make sure you are using the latest webpage update.

  46. Bigfan says:

    Great site.

You know what might help find the best yard sales: a heat map (a la Trulia) where the searches focus on yard sales in wealth(ier), high(er) income areas. Not that I want to foreclose the economically disadvantaged from yard sale success. I just think that the best deals come from rich people getting rid of their stuff.

And me, not being a rich person, would approve and benefit.

    Keep of the good work.

    Thanks
    COLIN

  47. Ken Esq says:

Found some bugs in the website add sales function.
    1. I put in one address…and the program changed it to another address in another town.
23 Vineyard Avenue Extension, Oak Bluffs, MA became 23 Beach Rd Extension in Vineyard Haven, MA.
    2. The edit information function only allows you to edit the information on the first sale in the itinerary even though I had pressed the edit link on the 6th sale down.
    3. Time of sale start should be included as a function of setting up an itinerary. Some sales start as early as 7 others won’t open until 9.

  48. Ken Esq says:

    Suggestoin:
It would be really nice if someone could just copy and past a yard sale ad into this site and your program could parse the date and address and then give the person the ability to edit that info before saving.
Even better, would be the ability to provide a link to a newspaper garage sale listing and have the program parse that page.

  49. Jon says:

Is there a way to add multiple addresses. Batch input like comma separated address lists would be very useful.

  50. Gary says:

    Mobile app suggestions:
    1. Locate me on the map
    2. When I click a pinpoint and the ad pops up, it is hard to see with the black background in the car or outside because of the mirror effect
    3. Always defaults to Saturday. Can app recognize what day it is?
